Loss is a short series I created after my grandfather passed away. Shortly after his death, I spent a weekend with my grandmother to document the loneliness and change that accompanies the loss of a loved one. By using a shallow depth of field with black and white images, I allow the viewers to look into a very private environment of a widow facing her new day-to-day life. Lastly, I superimposed my grandmother's handwriting onto the images to fill the empty spaces where my grandfather once was.
Loss won the 26th Annual Misty Dailey Award for Excellence in the Arts. This award was given by Georgetown University and judged by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Curator.
All photographs are 16x20 archival digital inkjet prints. 2018.
